We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and silence your phone or devices for this program to get the most out of this mindfulness practice.

Join us for a morning of yoga and meditation! Deepen your breath and take in the serenity of artist Vanessa Platacis’ Taking Place during a yoga class led by Reverend Gurdeep Bhogal. Then, stick around for a special guided mindfulness session in the gallery from 10:15–10:45 am, also led by Reverend Gurdeep.

      About the Gallery
Taking Place is an installation by Savannah, Georgia-based artist Vanessa Platacis that reimagines some of PEM’s most beloved objects. The artist researched the museum’s vast and varied holdings, diving deep to find unexpected connections across time, cultures and materials. Platacis turned her findings into 210 hand-cut canvas stencils and used a variety of spray-paint and graffiti techniques to apply color to the walls and give dimensionality and life to her forms. As you move deeper into these galleries, floral forms give way to enchanting fauna and larger-than-life presentations of familiar and unexpected objects.

Observing art can induce a “flow state” of mindfulness and activate the same part of the brain that more traditional mindfulness practices, like meditation and yoga, do. Join us on the first Sunday morning of every month (second Sundays for holiday weekends) in a guided practice of mindfulness. Come be still, relax and connect more deeply with artworks from PEM’s collection.
