You can join or renew your membership online, in person or by contacting the Membership team at membership@pem.org or 978-542-1641.
Your membership starts the day you purchase it and is active for 12 months.
Senior and Individual members receive one membership card. All other levels can receive up to two membership cards. Please allow up to 14 business days for your card(s) to arrive in the mail.
You are automatically signed up to receive member emails once you join! These emails will keep you up to date with PEM's curator-led tours, monthly museum updates and invitations to special member events.
All children under the age of 16 receive free admission to PEM.
Advanced registration is not required for general admission. Your membership card can be used as your ticket for the day. For ease of access, you can choose to reserve your tickets prior to your visit.
Yes! You can purchase a gift membership, at any level, to give the gift of PEM to your friends and family. Learn more about our membership levels.
PEM offers discounted Dual-level memberships to Salem residents and discounted Individual-level memberships to seniors ages 65 and older.
For admission to PEM, membership cards are preferred, but not required. If you do not have your card when you visit the museum, representatives at the Admissions desk would be happy to verify your active membership in our database by looking up your name. For Sponsor-level members and above, membership cards are needed to access North American Reciprocal Museums (NARM) and Council of American Maritime Museums (CAMM) institutions.
Yes. Sponsor-level members and above receive North American Reciprocal Museums (NARM) and Council of American Maritime Museums (CAMM) reciprocal benefits. Additional information, along with a list of participating institutions, can be found on their websites.
Yes. All memberships are either fully or partially tax-deductible. Specific tax deductibility can be found above and will be stated on your membership acknowledgement letter. If you would like to waive any of your benefits to increase the tax deductibility of your membership, please contact us at membership@pem.org or 978-542-1641.
We are now tracking guest passes digitally at the Admissions desk, meaning we are no longer mailing out physical passes to members. If you are a Dual-level member, 2 passes have been automatically added to your account. If you are a Family- or Sponsor-level member, 4 passes have been automatically added. Simply show up with your guests to redeem them! (Guest passes may be redeemed without the member present, as long as the member’s name is provided at the Admissions desk.) As a reminder, guest passes are single-use and expire at the end of a membership cycle.

We will honor all historic membership levels and benefits. This means if you joined or renewed prior to the changes implemented on January 27, 2026, you are still considered a member at the level you joined or renewed at and will continue to enjoy all the benefits that were associated with that level through the end of your membership cycle. While Salem residents enjoy free admission, and will continue to do so, membership offers so much more! Depending on your level, you can bring in guests for free (even if they don’t live in Salem), save on shopping and dining at the museum, access exclusive members-only programming and enjoy reciprocal admission to 1,500+ museums across the country. Additionally, we’re now offering a $50 discount on our most popular level (Dual) for Salem residents, making it even easier for you to get the most out of PEM!
