Location: Historic Ropes Mansion Gardens (318 Essex St)
$5 members and Salem residents, $10 nonmembers
We encourage participants to bring a blanket or yoga mat to sit on. Please dress comfortably, and bring a closed container of water. Feel free to bring a journal you’d like to work in, or plan to use a new one provided by PEM.
Connect with nature hands-on by engaging in a guided journaling practice in PEM’s Ropes Mansion Garden. This workshop will be led by multidisciplinary artist Elayna Sturm, founder of the Fantasies of Youth.
The Fantasies of Youth is a multimedia and mural project that translates dreams into something tangible. Through intersectional research and artwork, Sturm’s work incorporates elements of land, historical contexts, queerness, spirituality, community and lineage, intertwining with their own lived experiences.
Ropes Mansion reopens for tours on May 24. Feel free to stop by early and book your tickets to explore the house!
About our collaborator
Elayna Sturm works in a variety of contexts and mediums, including murals, creative writing, fiber arts, education and coaching. A self-described hopefully curious person, they blend the divine and the mundane to expose overarching patterns in a visual storytelling of interconnectedness. Sturm graduated from the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA in 2021 with a B.A. in Visual Arts and Botany. Born and raised on the Northern coast of Massachusetts, they now reside in Western Massachusetts.
The Fantasies of Youth gained its name back in 2017 when Sturm first started selling hand-embroidered upcycled garments, handmade jewelry and film photography prints. Initially the name of the artist’s Etsy shop (discontinued in 2021), the Fantasies of Youth has shifted and grown over the years— though keeping its core of wonder, hope and dreaming of new, better worlds.
