      Image Requests

PEM is committed to making images and information from our collection available for study, publication, education and other uses whenever possible. We have recently implemented a new web-based collection management system, and will be working in the coming months on integrating our digital assets and collection systems into a new and improved online collections portal.

      Requesting an Image

To request digital images of PEM objects for use in print and electronic formats, including research and publication, submit an Image Rights Application.

Please note that requests for digital images may take between four and six weeks to fulfill. Please carefully consider all editorial deadlines and allow ample time to process a request.

Please be advised that PEM has begun a multiyear collection moving project to the James B. and Mary Lou Hawkes Collection Center, a state-of-the-art, 120,000-square-foot facility in Rowley, Massachusetts. Due to the magnitude of the project and the significant demands on staff members, PEM has instituted a moratorium on collection access until July 1, 2026. As a result, we cannot accommodate requests for new photography of collection items.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause, and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we embark on a comprehensive upgrade to PEM’s collection storage and access.

Images acquired for research purposes may not be reproduced without a separate written agreement from PEM. PEM reserves the right to charge a fee for reproduction, depending on the use and distribution of the images. The requestor will be responsible for obtaining any necessary third-party permissions or consent required.

Please note that this is a request for digital images. If you would like to conduct research on collection objects or in PEM’s research archives at the Hawkes Collection Center, please use the Collection Access & Research form to request an appointment.
