GenPEM gathered at ICON Interactive’s Chinatown loft for their immersive VR experience Kingston 2219. Situated 200 years in future, and inspired in part by PEM's current exhibition Nature’s Nation, we experienced a future where the rising water levels split Boston’s population vertically into two economic classes.
Guests adopted an interactive ID for the evening to become part of the story, and examined Relics from the Future using an AR app.
Food and drinks also took up the theme with futuristic cocktails designed by Shōjō and boozy milkshakes and food from Moonies™, a fast food conglomerate from the future.
Jon Sulkow, Creative Director of ICON Interactive spoke about the project with Trevor Smith, the Curator of the Present Tense. The event was written up in the Improper Bostonian and you can view the interactive IDS and the VR experience Kingston 2219 here.
ICON Interactive will be showing the AR/VR installation by appointment for the rest of the year. If you or any of your friends want to experience it, contact email@example.com.
