Explore the logbooks of 18th-century sea captains.

Delve into the world of maritime manuscripts from PEM's renowned Phillips Library collection. Explore the logbooks of 18th-century sea captains as they voyaged around the globe recording extraordinary details of their adventures. Also featured are journals, orders books, letters and commonplace books, all filled with carefully handwritten accounts. Collectively, these documents offer tantalizing insight into the daily trials and triumphs of maritime history and relate to Charles Sandison's FreePort [No. 001] project.

Support provided by the East India Marine Associates of the Peabody Essex Museum.
