Exhibition
Stickwork: Patrick Dougherty
Located in the: Crowninshield-Bentley Lawn
Patrick Dougherty bends, weaves and flexes saplings into architectural sculptures that dynamically relate to the landscape and built environment around them. Over the last 30 years, he has created more than 250 works throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. Constructed from saplings collected by area volunteers, What the Birds Know provides dramatic counterpoint to the highly finished wood-frame Crowninshield-Bentley House that dates to the early 18th century. This is the first time PEM has commissioned an outdoor sculptural installation.
Stickwork is made possible in part by supporters of PEM's Present Tense Initiative: Terry and Dick Albright, Susan and Appy Chandler, and Fay Chandler. The East India Marine Associates of the Peabody Essex Museum supports this exhibition.
