      All supplies are provided. The supply kit will be mailed to each participant so they can participate in the workshop and continue painting at home.

      Celebrate Making History: 200 Years of American Art from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with a virtual introduction to line and wash sketching, tailored for adult beginners and those seeking to refresh their skills.

      The virtual session begins with a presentation by Jeffrey Richmond-Moll, PEM’s George Putnam Curator of American Art, who will offer an exclusive look at the iconic works in the exhibition. Afterward, participants will engage in a creative workshop led by artist Jessica Yurwitz of Slow River Studio.

      Jeffrey Richmond-Moll

      Jeffrey Richmond-Moll joined PEM in 2023 and now oversees an expansive collection that encompasses over four centuries of American art, culture and creative expression. Most recently serving as curator of American art at the Georgia Museum of Art, on the campus of the University of Georgia, Richmond-Moll has a wide range of expertise in American art from the colonial era to the late 20th century. He pursues interdisciplinary, experimental curatorial strategies to tell compelling, inclusive stories about our nation’s past, present and future. His highly collaborative practice seeks to forge connections across media and time periods and unlock new ideas about American art and identity. Follow @jrmcurator on Instagram.

      Jessica Yurwitz

      Jessica Yurwitz is an artist, educator and owner of Slow River Studio in Essex, MA. With over 30 years of teaching and leadership experience, she holds a B.A. from Hampshire College, a M.A. in Teaching from Brown University and a Principal Certification from Northeastern University. She founded Slow River Studio in 2018 to help adults develop their artistic skills and build community through creativity. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes that anyone can become an artist with the right guidance and encouragement.
