      About our collaborator

      The Fo'c'sle Four

The Fo’c’sle Four is a New England folk ensemble dedicated to preserving and performing traditional maritime music, historic ballads and songs from Salem and Gloucester, including sea shanties. The quartet is deeply rooted in the musical traditions of the North Shore. Their performances focus on the rich seafaring history of Salem and the surrounding coastal communities, blending vocal harmonies with traditional acoustic instrumentation. Leader Bob Strom is a musician, researcher and the author of Old Salem at Sea in Ballad and Song. His extensive archival work serves as the foundation for much of the group’s historical repertoire. Jen Strom is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist specializing in traditional fiddle tunes. Michael O’Leary is a singer, storyteller and interpreter of Celtic and maritime songs of Gloucester. Gary Dolinsky rounds out the group as an instrumentalist and vocalist who contributes driving sea shanty choruses and accompaniment on concertina and bouzouki.
