Acompaña al Punto Urban Art Museum (PUAM) y al artista Luis Rivas para hablar sobre su obra más reciente y proyecto de arte comunitario en el barrio Point (“El Punto”) de Salem. PUAM instalará en el parque Palmer Cove siete esculturas de 12 pies (más de 3,5 m) con forma de muñecas sin rostro, unas figurillas de arte folklórico originarias de la República Dominicana. Varios artistas locales pintarán seis esculturas inspirándose en diseños creados por residentes del barrio de Point. Luis Rivas pintará sus esculturas en colaboración con estudiantes locales. Este proyecto tiende un puente entre culturas por medio de la narración para elevar las vivencias de los residentes y otorgar agencia a los artistas y residentes de la comunidad y del programa artístico de PUAM.
Join Punto Urban Art Museum (PUAM) and artist Luis Rivas to discuss his latest work and community art project in Salem’s Point neighborhood (“El Punto”). PUAM will install seven 12-foot sculptures in Salem's Palmer Cove Park, with each sculpture taking the form of Muñecas Sin Rostro, ceramic folk art figurines that originated in the Dominican Republic. Six sculptures will be painted by local artists based on designs created by Point neighborhood residents. Luis Rivas will paint his sculptures in collaboration with local students. This project bridges cultures through storytelling, elevating the lived experiences of residents and creating agency for artists and residents in the community and PUAM’s arts program.
