      The Salem Witch Trials Walk

Step into Salem history on our self-guided walking tour.

1 hour, 1.2 miles, indoor/outdoor. Included with admission.

This self-guided audio tour reveals authentic witch trials objects in PEM’s collection that were once owned by the accusers and the accused, from a protective poppet to a sundial marking the final days of a life. People living in 1692 held these possessions and lived with this furniture in their homes. Explore the final words of the victims through court documents from the trials and dive into a modern middle school classroom, where a group of students and their teacher petitioned the Massachusetts state legislature for the exoneration of one of the women accused of witchcraft.

Then, step outside to explore key sites in Salem — the Witch Trials Memorial and 17th-century landmarks – that further tell the story of the events of 1692.

Come along as PEM curators and experts take you through the galleries and around downtown Salem to share this compelling story and what it means for us today.

The actual objects are a portal to understanding 1692 and the culture in which these events happened.”
