Let’s Collaborate!

September 2021–February 2022
Art in Action

Follow the Civic Engagement Programs and activities developed in conjunction with the PEM Prize. These programs acknowledge the community organizations with whom we have established partnerships. The PEM Prize presents an opportunity to broaden the scope of the kinds of programs being offered through these collaborations. The goal is to take what Honoree Carlos Garaicoa brought to our museum space out into other community spaces through music, conversations, and arts enrichment programming. Stay tuned for developments on these programs leading up to our celebrations in May!

We invite you to join us to celebrate the first ever PEM Prize. This will be an inspiring evening where we will honor Carlos Garaicoa, our PEM Prize recipient and raise funds to support the programs, exhibitions and education initiatives PEM offers each year. Together, we will experience the world premiere performance of a new score by Garaicoa created especially for the PEM Prize in collaboration with composer Esteban Puebla. The party will continue into the evening and feature cuisine, art experiences, music and entertainment inspired by the work of our honored guest. Stay tuned for details on the many ways to participate in this special night.

Please note: We look forward to welcoming you to the PEM Prize events on Saturday, May 21. In consideration of our guests, we are asking that all attendees show proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test, if you are not able to be vaccinated, upon arrival. Please bring your official vaccination card or a digital photo of your card or test result. Out of an abundance of caution and a desire to keep our guests healthy, we encourage everyone to take an at-home Covid test on the day of the event.

Sunday, May 22, 2022 | Noon-6 pm
PEM Prize Festival

Join us for the PEM Prize Festival on Sunday, May 22, which will be a daytime celebration free and open to the public featuring street musicians from the Greater Boston area curated by PEM and the artist. In his groundbreaking exhibition Partitura, Carlos Garaicoa imagined a new kind of orchestra — made up of 40 individual recordings of street musicians from Madrid and Bilbao, Spain. These artists varied widely in cultural background, skill level and musical tradition. The individual musicians brought the sounds of their city into the museum and with them a unique sense of place. In the spirit of Partitura, PEM will host an indoor/outdoor street music festival with artists bringing their unique sound to PEM throughout the day. The event will feature special food and beverage offerings, music, and art experiences to enjoy for all ages. Stay tuned for more details.

First-come, first-served parking is available at PG Shetland Park (27 Congress Street) with pick up in front of the Colonial House at 29 Congress Street. A shuttle service is available for those parking there. For more parking information, visit pem.org.

We thank PG Shetland Park for their generous support.
