There’s the new building, of course. Designed by Ennead Architects, the 40,000-square-foot expansion features three new floors of dedicated gallery space, a light-filled atrium and a welcoming entrance for school and group tours. There is also a new 5,000-square-foot-garden, with unique water features and plantings, that offers an inviting space to sit and relax and contemplate.
But the construction is only part of the story. In this stunning new space, visitors can encounter dynamic installations of our vast collections, including maritime, Asian export art and fashion and design, new exhibitions, new work by commissioned artists, and more opportunities to encounter art in public spaces. We hope you’ll come and explore today!
#newPEM is also about our hopes, dreams, and ambitions. Brian Kennedy, PEM’s Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Director and CEO, will lead the PEM community in an exercise to collectively define our priorities in order to build the museum’s strategic plan that will guide us for the next decade. We hope you’ll join us in this important and engaging process. Additional details to follow on this page in the months to come.
