Create Night: Make Your Own Masala Chai with Boston Chai Party
Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 7-8 pm
This event is SOLD-OUT
Members $10; nonmembers $20
Join us in celebrating Indian Independence by expanding our understanding of chai and honoring the culture surrounding it with Vishal Thapar, co-founder of Boston Chai Party. Enjoy a taste of authentic Indian chai — made with sustainable, fair trade organic ingredients — and learn how to make it yourself at home. Then hear about the cultural and social significance and origins of chai in India, the health benefits of regular consumption, and the importance of ritual in preparing and consuming chai.
Participants will receive a kit in advance containing necessary ingredients to make masala chai. You will only need to provide your own milk or milk alternative and have access to a kitchen for this program.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER Vishal Thapar, Ph.D., first started making chai as a 10-year-old boy in India. Disillusioned at the lack of authentic chai readily available in the United States, he and his business partner Rushil Desai founded Boston Chai Party in 2015. Their mission is to educate people in America about the possibilities of chai — how to make it, where it comes from, and the subtleties of the different notes and spices.
Virtual Create Nights take place on the third Thursday of every month and are led by a local artist or special guest. All materials are mailed to participants in advance.
