The Education Department is accepting practicum placement requests from creative and driven students majoring in art education or related programs. Practicum students will be placed with our Connected Learning team, which works with groups from schools and out-of-school programs.
During their time at the museum, practicum students will assist with the research, development and facilitation of winter/spring programming for student and youth audiences, while developing one or more lessons of their own which they will facilitate from start to finish with a student group. Students gain experience from observing and designing gallery activities that promote critical thinking, creative expression and interdisciplinary learning; prepping and running art activities; and tracking attendance and feedback on tours. A willingness to work independently and as a team, an openness to try new things and a desire to work with a diverse range of audiences are qualities that we seek.
Internship Qualifications: Graduate student or advanced undergraduate with practicum requirements to work directly with students and teachers and knowledge of art and art making. Academic concentration in education, studio art, art history or museum studies preferred. Strong organizational, computer and communication skills, comfort speaking in front of groups and ease with multitasking are all required. Experience leading art activities and/or developing curriculum materials is preferred.
