If you want to see your students' eyes light up, bring them to the Peabody Essex Museum. We specialize in helping you turn classroom content into real-life experience. Our programs enrich classroom activities and are aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Art, History and Social Science, English Language Arts, and Science and Technology/Engineering.

We've developed programs that support your classroom teaching by:

  • Illustrating concepts, answering questions, sparking new interests
  • Introducing ideas and techniques that encourage students to define the importance of art and to create art for themselves
  • Enhancing essential learning skills - in creative thinking, problem solving, inquiry, and more
  • Providing enrichment for students of diverse learning styles and cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrating a connection between works of art and ideas, culture, and the everyday experiences of students

Creative Instruction

All K-12 programs are developed by curriculum specialists and presented by trained museum volunteers who employ multicultural and multidisciplinary methods tailored to meet your curriculum goals. For selected programs, we also offer interactive, hands-on workshops that focus on the creative process of viewing and talking about art, and provide experience with art materials and art making.

Program Registration and Admission Fees

Reservations for both school programs and self-guided visits should be made at least two weeks in advance. Call 978-745-9500, ext. 3060.

Programs are conducted by members of the museum staff. By special arrangement, you and your class may also tour any of our galleries as an independent group. For every ten students, we require one chaperone (admitted free).

Admission and Program Fee for each student and non-chaperoning adult is $5.00 for the first program hour and $2.50 for the second hour. Programs are typically one hour long. At no additional cost, students and chaperones may remain in the museum to tour on their own. Non-chaperoning adults accompanying the groups are admitted at the student rate.

Your visit to the Peabody Essex Museum may be eligible for subsidies from the PASS Roster Program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council. For further information call your local Cultural Council representative.

Note: Teachers planning future class visits or preparing worksheets are admitted free
