Join PEM in an exploration of art and culture in our Evenings for Educators. These interactive programs feature guided tours of special exhibitions, hands-on workshops and a packet of lesson plans that teachers can use in the classroom.
Evening for Educators: Sights and Sounds of Kabuki Theater
Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 6-9 PM
Traditionally trained performers from Tokyo bring their art form to PEM to share their extraordinary talents in Kabuki-style music and dance. Following the performance, enjoy a guided gallery talk featuring works from the special exhibition Stage Idols, Japanese Kabuki Theater, and then create a work of art inspired by the exhibition.
Evening for Educators: Art Inspired by the Polar Regions
Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 6-9 PM
Participate in guided tours of the special exhibitions Polar Attractions and To the Ends of the Earth, Painting the Polar Landscape to discover how artists have captured the essence of the polar regions and used their work to comment on issues such as global warming. A studio activity provides an opportunity for educators to express their own view of the Arctic and Antarctic in a work of art.
Evening for Educators: Chinese Art Then and Now
Thursday, March 12, 2009 6-9 PM
Explore the socio-political events and ideas that shape Chinese art, both in the past and today. View exquisite examples of traditional Chinese aesthetics along with cutting-edge contemporary works of art. Reflective writing and a simple studio activity will round out the evening.
