Antoine Roux Sketch Books

Although the ship portraits by Antoine Roux (1765-1835) of Marseilles are very well-known, to many the best of his works is to be found in sketches. A selection taken from the nineteen sketch books dated between 1790 and 1826 at The Peabody Museum of Salem, will attempt to show some of the charm and fresh vigor of his work, even though the color cannot be reproduced.
