SALEM, MASS. - The Annual Antiques Show at the Peabody Essex Museum will return Thanksgiving weekend, 2004. The event will feature over 30 dealers from England and across the United States showcasing exceptional silver, furniture, paintings, porcelain, jewelry, and decorative accessories. Proceeds from the show support the museum’s education programs, which serve over 20,000 children and families each year.

The Antiques Show runs Saturday, Nov. 27 and Sunday, Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry to the show is included with museum admission (Adults, $13; seniors, $11; students, $9; 16 and under and residents of Salem, free).

The show kicks off with a spectacular preview party on Friday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m., a long-standing Antiques Show tradition. Guests will have an advanced glimpse of the dealer booths while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and cocktails served by The Catered Affair. Tickets for the preview party are $100 with advance purchase, and $125 at the door. A limited raffle with only 300 available tickets will feature two prizes: a $5,000 gift certificate to spend at any dealer over the weekend, and two round trip tickets to London, courtesy of Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Visitors attending the show can also explore PEM’s exceptional art collections. The American Art gallery, for example, will have excellent examples of furniture, paintings, and needlework on display. The Asian Export Art collection features silver, porcelain, and other objects. Additionally, four changing exhibitions are sure to fascinate visitors of all interests. Carved by Nature features fine examples of antique Chinese decorative art and furniture. The Art of Shopping in China illustrates what shopping was like in historic Canton hundreds of years ago, and the images in Havana: Photographs by Robert Polidori bring the architecture of Cuba to life through stunning photographs. The Antiques Show weekend also marks the opening of Our Land: Contemporary Art from the Arctic.

The 32nd Annual Antiques Show at the Peabody Essex Museum is made possible in part by Landry & Arcari Oriental Rugs and Carpeting of Boston and Salem, as well as participating sponsors Brewer & Lord LLC; The Catered Affair; Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage/Previews; Flagship Press; Kaminski Auctioneers & Appraisers; and Morgan Stanley.

Education Programs at PEM

Proceeds from this event support educational initiatives and school outreach programs offered by the museum. The Peabody Essex Museum has initiated the development of new models for museum educational programs, such as the Museum Action Corps (MAC) internship program, which incorporates museum studies with leadership activities for youth from Salem and other communities on Boston’s North Shore. Additionally, the museum works with elementary schools and school groups to incorporate art and culture into the classroom.
