More than two hundred years ago, what is now the Peabody Essex Museum was created by individuals of unusual foresight and dedication. Generations of patrons, staff, and volunteers nurtured this institution and its unique heritage. Now the museum has entered its third century with a stunning transformation of its physical form and an exciting new approach to the appreciation of art and the world in which it was made. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to participate in this undertaking are grateful for the opportunity and gratified by the result. It has been a privilege to be part of the legacy of entrepreneurship and public service that has characterized this institution throughout its long and distinguished history.
Now we look forward to a glorious future in which the Peabody Essex Museum will make a real and significant difference in the lives of millions of people today and for many years to come. I hope youll visit often to enjoy changing exhibitions and the wide array of programs and activities offered every month. This is your museum. Welcome. |
