7 pm | The Ghost Army

2012, 67 minutes, directed by Rick Beyer

Director Rick Beyer and subjects of the documentary will be in attendance.

The festival kicks off with a world premiere that tells the story of a secret U.S. Army unit during World War II, the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, or so-called Ghost Army. From June 1944 to March 1945, 1,100 American GIs used inflatable rubber tanks and planes, sound effects and other trickery to mislead the Germans. Many were artists, including a budding fashion designer named Bill Blass. After seven years and interviews with more than 20 veterans, this documantary tells their story.

With the forecast looking stormy, but mostly wind and rain, Salem Film Fest is planning to proceed with the Thursday, March 7, 7 pm screening of The Ghost Army at the Peabody Essex Museum.

If the forecast worsens, an announcement will be posted at www.SalemFilmFest.com at around 2 pm on Thursday, March 7. Currently we anticipate that this screening will take place as scheduled.
