Experience the museum in a whole new way with Slow Art Day. On Saturday, April 17, PEM –– along with 46 other art museums worldwide –– welcomes visitors to contemplate 10 works of art at an untraditional, slow pace. Championed by Michael Kimmelman, chief art critic at The New York Times, Slow Art Day is an offshoot of the Slow Movement, a global grassroots movement that aims to enhance visual awareness and critical thinking through the act of careful looking.
At PEM, in celebration of the opening of The Kennedys| Portrait of a Family: Photographs by Richard Avedon, Slow Art Day participants will view artworks in the new exhibition and elsewhere in the museum that explore themes of power. A casual lunch and discussion follow in the museum’s Atrium Café.
