Join the Creative Services team as a design intern. If you are nearing completion of a graphics art degree and would like to gain significant workplace experience before graduation this is the ideal internship for you. You’ll produce a wide range of printed materials including signs, brochures, fliers and postcards and help solve design and construction problems related to museum signage, packaging, etc. Interns will learn to take a job from conception through printing (including press checks).
Internship Qualifications: College student and skilled designer, proficient in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, who can work independently and with a team. You must also have good writing skills and be interested in working in an arts/nonprofit environment. The ability to work well with staff throughout the organization is essential.

Join the Creative Services team as a writer/editor intern. You'll work with the Director of Editorial and Design and the Creative Services staff to write articles or rewrite copy for brochures, invitations, exhibition materials, ads, promotions, the members’ magazine, Web and more. This is a great opportunity to build your portfolio and learn how to create buzz for upcoming exhibitions and events.
Internship Qualifications: College student with knowledge of and an appreciation for art, excellent writing, reporting and copyediting skills and familiarity with AP style. The ability to work well with staff throughout the organization is essential.

Join the Integrated Media team as an audio-visual intern. You’ll support the AV staff before, during and after events, special programs and more. You’ll learn which equipment is best for the job and how to ensure events run smoothly, technically speaking.
Internship Qualifications: College student familiar with all types of audio and visual equipment. You should have experience with live audio mixing and video recording. A pleasant demeanor and solid communication skills are essential.

Join the Integrated Media team as a video post-production intern. The post-production internship is a hands-on learning experience. You’ll collaborate in the creative and technical processes involved in the creation of video pieces that document artists at work as well as events at the museum. Work with Final Cut Pro to edit short-format videos that appear on pem.org, during programming, for marketing initiatives and in exhibitions.
Internship Qualifications: College student with a solid understanding of Final Cut Pro and strong organizational and communication skills.

Join the Marketing team as an intern. As a ready contributor to our marketing team, you’ll assist the department researching and writing our monthly tourism newsletter, radio spots and e-blasts to PEM subscribers. You’ll also support the department with a variety of tasks including sales, data entry, distributing materials to museum partners and processing donation requests.
Internship Qualifications: College student with exemplary communication skills, strong organizational and people skills, attention to detail, a comfortable phone presence and the ability to work independently. You will need Internet skills for research, strong office skills and the ability to multi-task.

Join the Guest Services team as an intern. You’ll be an ambassador for the museum working in the Information and Special Exhibition areas to welcome guests and inform them about our programs and exhibitions. You may also learn how to sell museum admission at the admissions desk and assist current and new members at the membership desk. Other responsibilities within the department include administrative support and general customer service for museum guests, members and staff. You’ll learn customer service skills by interacting with the public, helping ensure a pleasant visit and sharing information.
Internship Qualifications: High school or college student. Some customer service experience is preferred but not required. You should have a friendly, personable manner and be comfortable interacting with the public. Must be available one to two afternoons/week from 3 to 5 pm, and weekends. Cash-handling experience a plus.

Join the Guest Services team as Group Tour intern. You’ll be an ambassador for the museum checking in group tours. The Group Tour intern will greet group leaders and participants, orient groups to the museum campus, collect fees and provide admissions stickers and floor plans. Other group tour responsibilities include assisting the Reservation Coordinator with the administrative tasks in processing group reservations including, but not limited to, entering group reservation information into the system, copying and filing group reservation forms and preparing weekly sheets for Education Groups drop-off areas. You may also learn how to sell museum admission at the Admissions Desk and work at the Information Desk and Special Exhibition areas to inform guests about our programs and exhibitions as well as greet our guests as they enter the museum. Other responsibilities within the department include administrative support and general customer service for museum guests, members and staff. You’ll learn customer service skills by interacting with the public, helping ensure a pleasant visit and sharing information.

Join the Art & Nature Center (ANC) as an intern. You’ll greet and help visitors in the Pop-Up ANC and monitor how families interact with exhibits. You’ll help maintain exhibits, teach interactive programs and family workshops and develop art activities. You’ll research varied topics while working on independent projects, supporting exhibition prototyping and evaluation, curriculum development, generating public programming ideas and exploring future ANC exhibition topics. Administrative tasks include copying, preparing for programs, preparing mailings and organizing supplies.
Internship Qualifications: College or graduate student. Some customer service or education experience is preferred but not required. You should have a friendly, personable manner, strong communication skills and a passion for working with children and families and be comfortable interacting with the public. Ideal for students interested in museum education.

Join the Registration team as an intern. You will discover the secret, fast-paced, behind-the-scenes workings of an art museum by assisting in the daily duties of the Registration Department. You will assist in the preparation of documentation for changing exhibitions, outgoing loans and PEM’s permanent collection; digitize collection records, including scanning, image manipulation, file re-naming and organization; data entry of object and accession records on the Argus Software database system; archive files, including surveying, organizing and archiving files under the instruction of the entire Registration Department; research projects pertaining to donors, loans and object records as they arise; train in object handling, object moves and the creation of condition reports; and participate in ongoing collection digitization projects.
Internship Qualifications: College student with knowledge of and an appreciation for art/art history and a demonstrated ability in paying attention to details. Ability to work well with staff throughout PEM is essential.

Join the Development team as an intern. You’ll assist in all aspects of the Peabody Essex Museum’s fundraising operations. Responsibilities include providing administrative support to Development department as needed, writing materials for donor cultivation and stewardship, assisting with specific research and data gathering projects, supporting gift acknowledgement and fulfillment activities and assisting in planning and execution of special member events. Interns will also contribute to maintenance of accurate Raiser’s Edge donor database by gathering and updating of contact information and relationships.
Internship Qualifications: College or postgraduate student with excellent written and oral communication, planning and organizational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills and precise attention to detail are required. Must be computer literate and have knowledge of and ease with Microsoft Office. Must effectively interact with members of the Development staff, as well as other museum departments. Experience conducting online research preferred. Join the Education Department for spring 2013. You’ll work with the adult programs staff to research a wide variety of presenters for our programs including visual artists, authors, filmmakers, musicians, art and history experts, etc. You’ll also help create and implement interactive art activities for adults that will be offered at our PEM/PM: Evening Party series. Administrative tasks include organizing evaluation binders, finding supplies on-line, preparing sample art activities.
Internship Qualifications: College or graduate student who is knowledgeable about art and art making and enjoys working with adults and families. Academic concentration in Education, Studio Art, Art History or Museum Studies preferred. You will need strong organizational skills, computer skills and the ability to work collaboratively or independently and multitask. You should be comfortable speaking in front of groups and have excellent communication skills.

The intern will work in the Education department, assisting in the development of the PEM Access Initiative. The intern will work as a liaison between PEM’s Education, Guest Services, and other museum departments. Developing contacts and partnerships with community accessibility organizations will also be involved. Interns will be responsible for documenting access requests and conducting in-gallery visitor observations. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in educator training and attend Cultural Access New England trainings.
Internship Qualifications: The ideal candidate must have an interest in accessible art museum programming, enjoy interacting with the public and have experience working with people with special needs or community groups. The candidate should have the ability to multitask, be extremely organized and be able to successfully execute both administrative and program-oriented projects. Fluency in a foreign language, including American Sign Language, is welcomed.

You will help to plan and implement tours and art activities for student groups, including researching curriculum frameworks, organizing lesson plans, preparing materials, and gathering and tracking feedback from teachers and docents. Additionally, you will help plan and implement professional development workshops for teachers, artist demonstrations and a community art night. Join the Education Department for spring 2013. Interns will lead gallery activities and art lessons for the Youth & Community Partnership Program (YCPP) under the guidance of a Massachusetts state-licensed art educator. Interns will provide instruction 2-3 afternoons per week.
Internship Qualifications: Interns must have previous education experience as well as the ability to develop and lead creative art lessons. Interns must be available two afternoons per week. Dependability and flexibility are musts. College students and student teachers are encouraged to apply.

Join the Exhibition Design team as a design intern. If you are nearing completion of a graphics art degree and would like to gain significant workplace experience before graduation this is the ideal internship for you. The ideal candidate is someone who is interested in being involved with not only creating a vibrant design, but, understanding what is involved with its installation within a gallery exhibit. This is not a design job that will have you behind a monitor all day!
Internship Qualifications: College student and skilled designer, proficient in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, who can work independently and with a team. Join the Exhibition Design department as a draftsperson and exhibition research intern. This position will give you the opportunity to create 3D components and initial layouts for use in exhibition designs as well as document and update existing design and construction documents. Additionally, we are looking for a candidate that is interested in researching vendors and materials for the Design Department library.
